How It Began

cnc machineryAfter being in the industry since college and looking ahead to retirement, I began to ask that question that each of us ask ourselves at some point - “what will I do?”

It was hard to think of being involved with anything other than machining. After all, I had over 40 years of experience. I knew I was good at it and had a great deal of information to pass on.

I eventually realized that I enjoyed teaching and wanted to give back to other machinists. I first started by volunteering my time at the local machinists’ school. During this time I looked to getting my teaching credentials that would enable me to govern my own curriculum. But there were two problems I was facing. One, it was too much like a “job”. Five full days a week & on a time schedule. Not what I was looking for. Second, I was limited to passing on my experience to the students in the class. How could I get more information to more people?

I was often reminded that through out the 22 years I owned my business, many of the machinists we hired (many who had experience) didn't have the basic knowledge of some of the “beginning machinist” practices. These were some of the first things I learned, the principles that govern good machining practices. I found myself teaching and training these same basics over and over again. Then it hit me, I could pass on this valuable information to many by creating a video.
